Once this is all clear and practiced, repeatedly adding on (say) 6 is no longer difficult. Practice which pairs cross the tens boundary and which don’t. 17 and 7+6 can quickly be turned into 10+3, ie. Once these number pairs are known, 9+8 can quickly be turned into 10+7, ie. Why?
